Another DJ Lubi Spanish Harlem session at The Wardrobe is in store for May Spring Bank Holiday weekend. The return of the living legend of UK jazz/funk/soul/latin music DJ Snowboy, off the congas and onto the decks for a rare Leeds appearance and his first Wardrobe DJ set in over 8 years!
What can't you say about this man? Professional DJ for over 30 years, champion of the UK jazzdance scene from the start to the present day, deep funk and soul connoisseur, afro-cuban and latin jazz expert, supporter of new music such as broken beat, CD compiler for a host of labels, columnist for Blues & Soul Magazine........if they called James Brown the hardest working man in show business, then Snowboy would definately be in second spot!
He has played across the world - funk clubs, jazz festivals, soul weekenders, latin nights.....he's has appeared at so many Southport Soul Weekenders they probably have a permanent caravan there for him, a little piece of Essex on the Lancashire coast! In 2009, he finally published his long-awaited book "From Jazz-Funk And Fusion To Acid Jazz : A History Of The UK Jazz-Dance Scene" to great acclaim. Simply, Snowboy is now a much loved and respected UK musical institution! Expect a blinding set of jazz-funk, deep soul, boogie, fusion, rhythm & blues, heavy funk 45s and of course, a little bit of latin magic.....
LIVE ONSTAGE: Bob Birch Trio & One - original New Mastersounds hammond organist delivers a smoking set of Blue Note Record style soul jazz/hammond funk and modal sounds with his organ/guitar/drums/sax quartet...think Big John Patton/Lonnie Smith/Larry Young....the real acid jazz meets blues and soul! Band onstage 10.45pm.
DJ support from original Leeds jazz daddy/soul brother GIP DAMMONE (DIG! Family/The Cooker/Yardbird Suite/Gordon Ramsay's The F-Word), cooking up some soul/jazz/rhythm & blues beauties before the band, and then young left-field Brasilian beats/latin soul maestro DJ GIB (Brasilian Beats/Rumba Caracass/Havana Cultura) will be warming up for Snowboy after the band.
