Your Local: The Harlequin

The Reader: Jack Smith, Sales Manager at J.E. James Cycles, Sheffield.

Why is this ‘Your Local’: ''Warm welcoming staff, darts board, good house beer from the Brew Company, filling Sunday dinners.''

Favourite tipple: Jack -Brew Company ‘Blonde’ 4% abv, a light pale fruity blonde ale.

Liz - Brew Company ‘Winter Warrior’ 4.2% abv, a bitter with deep copper colour and American hops, Greenall’s ‘Bloom’ gin 40% abv & Gwynt y Ddraig ‘Fiery Fox’ cider 6.5% abv.

The Local: The Harlequin: A free house pub, with its house beer brewed by Sheffield based The Brew Company (brewer – Pete Roberts); over 14 hand pulled beers, extensive World bottled beer range (including Denver based Flying Dog Brewery full range), 12-14 traditional ciders and perries (venue was awarded Sheffield Camra branch cider pub of the year in 2011). Liz cooks all the food on site from fresh ingredients which includes a speciality burger menu (there’s even an Argentinian influenced ‘Hand of god’ burger); and a beast of a Sunday dinner. They host monthly ‘tasting’ nights where the focus ranges from rum to whiskey to beer and cider which Liz pairs with food canapés. December’s session will launch their new Gin club. On weekends the pub is engulfed with the sounds of live bands playing rock and blues.
