Beer Celebrations: Tapped Brew Co & Exposed Magazine

There’s something about a celebration that brings everyone together, no need for paper hats, party poppers or any other revelry item when you’ve got a beer; that’s all you need. It seems to be the month of celebrations, from The Tapped Brew Co having a big knees up to mark their centennial brew to Exposed magazine’s 10th birthday, rejoicing in style with a collaborative brew alongside Thornbridge Brewery

The Tapped Brew Co was a double whammy affair – their 100th brew and first birthday rolled into one. They’ve brewed over twenty different beer styles since launching at the Sheffield Tap from wheat beer to pale ales and stouts; their 100th brew was an American pale ale with lots of Centennial hops. Mashing began at 5pm and a tentative crowd watched the brewer’s every move. The Tapped Brew Co family including Sheffield Tap crew and Pivovar distribution were on hand to answer brewing questions from enquiring minds. The restored dining rooms filled with the heady malt and hop aromas as 100 Cent stepped through the stages and by late evening brewing finished. During the course of the event samples of Tapped Brew Co beers circulated, including a welcome sample of Larger an unfiltered Pilsner (5.2%) which had been brewed at sister venue Leeds Tap. Catch 100 Cent over the bar at The Sheffield Tap for a satisfying citrusy ‘super Cascade’ hoppy pale ale hit.

2014 hails a milestone in happy birthdays for the crew at Exposed magazine as they reach their 10th year in the publishing trade.

What better way to celebrate than brewing a beer?

The invite was rapidly accepted from Thornbridge Brewery to join them at their original ten barrel brewery site in the grounds of Thornbridge Hall. Brewer Will Inman took the reins of the Exposed session IPA using a pale malt base including Maris Otter, Caramalt and Munich in addition to lots of American hop Columbus. Expect some additional dry hopping in cask to make this a truly hop forward yet easy drinking beer. This US hop has a spicy and citrus profile think black pepper meets sherbet lemon and is frequently used in classic American IPAs such as Anderson Valley’s Hop Ottin and Oskar Blues Deviant Dale’s IPA. A round of “Happy Birthday To You” in a Stevie Wonder stylee seems appropriate.
