Your Local: Interval Cafe Bar

The Reader: Sheffield University Real Ale & Cider Society (@RealAleSoc): Nathan Rodgers (President), Tom Roseveare (Inclusion Officer) & Ben Wright (Social Secretary).

Why is this ‘Your Local’? “Nice balance between a cafe and bar atmosphere with good beer and food. It’s not like any other university bar I’ve visited, having loads of hand pulls of beer and a fridge full of craft beer”.

Favourite tipple: Brearley, a collaborative brew from Sheffield University Real Ale Society and Thornbridge Brewery. A New World hoppy amber ale at 4 per cent. Named after the stainless steel originator Harry Brearley and using New World hops like Pacific Jade and Gem in addition to some dry hopping techniques.

The Local: Having recently won Sheffield Camra Club of the year has marked this university hang out as a tangible beer destination amongst the city centre bars. With a landscaped terrace it’s one of the finest beer gardens to spend a sunny afternoon within the city circular. With seven hand pulls rotating local and national beers (and cider); Abbeydale Brewery’s nectar Moonshine is a mainstay. Every Tuesday the bar showcases a different brewery often with a local focus. With nine to ten craft beers in the fridges and two draught craft beers from the likes of Thornbridge and Brewdog Breweries, even though ale is the biggest category, a choice is offered for all beer preferences. In the last twelve months the patrons have gulped their way through 33,522 pints of ale and the bar has served over 300 different cask beers. The food menu offers spicy burritos, lamb kofta flatbreads and the exceptionally popular stone baked 10”pizzas throughout the day.
